Position Overview:

Level I Responsibilities:

Coordinate all aspects of nutritional care, including assessment, care planning, monitoring, education, and counseling for both inpatients and outpatients across various healthcare settings.

Ensure compliance with performance improvement initiatives, Joint Commission standards, and other regulatory requirements.


Key Duties:
  • Deliver nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy aligned with patient health objectives.
  • Assess, interpret, and document the nutritional status and requirements of patients, adhering to established care standards.
  • Provide culturally appropriate nutrition counseling tailored to the diverse needs of patients and their families.
  • Create, review, and implement educational resources for patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Order diets, supplements, enteral/parenteral nutrition, and relevant laboratory tests in accordance with hospital protocols.
  • Collaborate as a vital member of the clinical interdisciplinary team.
  • Maintain registered dietitian (RD) credentials, including ongoing professional development.
  • Mentor dietetic interns and train newly hired clinical staff.
  • Oversee the daily activities of dietetic technicians, providing input on their performance evaluations.
  • Adhere to Nutrition Services meeting and attendance requirements.

Level II Responsibilities:

Fulfill all Level I duties while also taking on supervisory responsibilities.

Prepare monthly performance improvement documentation.

Assist the department director in revising and updating departmental policies and procedures.

Organize and manage the work schedules and daily tasks of clinical dietitians and dietetic interns.


Minimum Qualifications:
Level I:

Bachelor's degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, Nutritional Sciences, Human Nutrition, or a related field is preferred, or as per state regulations.

One year of experience in an acute care setting is preferred; exceptions may apply for specific roles.

Current BLS certification is required.


Level II:

All Level I qualifications apply.

Two years of experience in an acute care environment, including one year in a supervisory capacity, is preferred; exceptions may apply for specific roles.

Successful completion of a coordinated program or dietetic internship of at least 900 hours under the supervision of a Registered Dietitian is preferred.

Both levels must successfully complete the testing process.

Current BLS certification is required.

Current physical examination in accordance with state or contract regulations.

Current TB test or chest X-ray is required.
