APS is seeking a highly skilled Senior Technical Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for providing technical engineering, design, economic, and analytical support to participate in the development of long-range system plans and conducting of engineering requests, proposals, and presentations.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering, with a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline or related applied science discipline. They will also have at least five years of experience in engineering-related positions, with a proven track record of providing technical guidance and leadership to less experienced engineers.

The Senior Technical Engineer will be responsible for preparing engineering plans, designs, analysis, specifications, cost estimates, evaluations, studies, technical reviews, investigations, and verifications. They will also ensure that engineering analyses, design, project control, schedule commitments, or oversight work is technically sound, cost-effective, and in compliance with established standards, codes, and regulations.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface with customers and other departments to ensure project objectives are understood and that work scope meets customer requirements, budget, and schedule.

In addition, the Senior Technical Engineer will be responsible for enhancing department performance and productivity and/or unit performance by formulating, coordinating, performing analysis, and making recommendations for improvements. They will also provide technical assistance and guidance to department personnel to enhance department performance and productivity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical engineering, design, economic, and analytical support to participate in the development of long-range system plans and conducting of engineering requests, proposals, and presentations.
  • Prepare engineering plans, designs, analysis, specifications, cost estimates, evaluations, studies, technical reviews, investigations, and verifications.
  • Ensure that engineering analyses, design, project control, schedule commitments, or oversight work is technically sound, cost-effective, and in compliance with established standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Interface with customers and other departments to ensure project objectives are understood and that work scope meets customer requirements, budget, and schedule.
  • Enhance department performance and productivity and/or unit performance by formulating, coordinating, performing analysis, and making recommendations for improvements.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to department personnel to enhance department performance and productivity.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline or related applied science discipline.
  • At least five years of experience in engineering-related positions.
  • Proven track record of providing technical guidance and leadership to less experienced engineers.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interface with customers and other departments.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PowerFlow experience.
  • Problem analysis/resolution techniques.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, practices, methods, and safety standards in the area of applicable engineering discipline.
  • Experience in the utility industry.
  • Experience in nuclear industry for jobs at Palo Verde.
  • Professional Engineer licensure.

Working Conditions:

This position requires Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) access consistent with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards. The applicant considered for this role will be required to obtain and maintain CIP access for the duration of employment in this position.

A full seven (7) year criminal history will be obtained through the pre-employment background check process (or, for current employees, through supplemental background check process) to fulfill the CIP access requirements. In addition, this position requires an additional background check every seven years to maintain access.

This position is not required to be performed at a specific APS facility as long as adequate technology and a solid ergonomic set up are present. Pending agreement with leadership, employees hired into this role will be able to choose where they prefer to perform their work, but the ultimate decision is the company's.

Employees in Flex roles are required to reside in Arizona (or NM for Four Corners-based employees). Role types are subject to change based on business need.
