Job Summary


Massachusetts General Hospital is seeking a skilled Building Maintenance Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of our facilities. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our buildings and systems.



Key Responsibilities



  • Schedule and assign section personnel to perform routine maintenance tasks and respond to mechanical and emergency calls.
  • Provide orientation and on-the-job training in building systems, including heating, cooling, water, steam, electricity, and medical gases.
  • Assure communication between shifts by overseeing the use of the electronic log book and work order system.
  • Supervise the operation and maintenance of air filtration equipment to ensure maximum efficiency and air quality.
  • Assist in overseeing the PM database for OHM and coordinate work internally and with other departments to minimize disruption to hospital operations.
  • Distribute tools and stock and maintain necessary inventory and accountability.
  • Ensure all OHM employees receive up-to-date training.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.


Requirements



  • Knowledge of building systems and infrastructure distribution.
  • High school completion and possession of a valid MA state license in electric, HVAC, or plumbing, with a preference for electrician or HVAC trade.
  • Three to five years of experience as a licensed tradesman.
  • Knowledge of mechanics, tool usage, pneumatics, and ability to read blueprints.
  • Physical ability to climb stairs, ladders, and walk almost constantly, with occasional work in confined areas and lifting over 70 pounds.
  • Interpersonal skills to exchange information with other shop personnel and provide on-the-job training.
  • Some computer skills required.


Work Conditions



  • Frequent exposure to extreme dust, dirt, fumes, and outside elements in hospital equipment areas.
  • Occasional exposure to moderately severe hazards of steam, water, acids, tool usage, electricity, asbestos, biohazard, and low-level radiation, with compliance with safety procedures minimizing risks.
  • Subject to being called in anytime for emergencies.
  • Respond to problems as required of all trades when working off-hour shifts.
  • Compliance with hospital rules and standards, universal precaution procedures, and hospital and department rules on uniforms, with safety equipment use on specific job assignments.
  • Some overtime required.
  • Provide own hand tools.
