Software Engineering Manager Role

The Software Engineering Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing business operations by designing, coding, and collaborating to deliver comprehensive solutions utilizing contemporary frameworks and technologies. This position is responsible for managing the practice in alignment with industry standards and company protocols.

  • Project Management: Oversee multiple software engineering initiatives and direct engineering personnel across both backend and frontend disciplines.
  • Architectural Guidance: Design and lead the team in developing and deploying scalable, efficient, and reusable code to enhance our business capabilities.
  • Issue Resolution: Conduct analysis and troubleshooting to address challenges with deployed systems.
  • Documentation Maintenance: Ensure proper documentation and source control practices are upheld.
  • Collaborative Development: Engage in code contributions and reviews as part of a cooperative team, building essential systems for clients.
  • Team Supervision: Manage product and automation engineers within a cross-functional team, prioritizing tasks and ensuring adherence to best practices.
  • Agile Management: Define and manage tasks for yourself and your team in an agile framework.
  • Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to team members.
  • Solution Implementation: Collaborate with engineering leadership to architect and implement effective solutions.
  • Client Interaction: Partner with the Product team to represent engineering perspectives in client discussions.
  • Problem Ownership: Take responsibility for issues and devise solutions aligned with business goals.
  • Team Support: Respond promptly to the needs of the engineering team.
Qualifications
  • Technical Expertise: Proficient in backend (Java) and frontend (Angular) technologies, including Spring Boot microservices, API development, and Web Services Integration.
  • Server Experience: Familiarity with Web and Application Servers, preferably Tomcat.
  • Database Knowledge: Experience with relational databases such as MySQL and AWS RDS.
  • Modern Development Practices: Well-versed in contemporary software development methodologies and patterns.
  • Leadership Experience: Minimum of 3 years managing engineering teams.
  • Cloud Familiarity: Knowledge of AWS or other cloud service providers.
  • Independent Problem Solving: Proven ability to architect and develop solutions autonomously.
  • Monitoring Tools: Experience in application monitoring with APM tools, preferably Datadog.
  • Containerization Knowledge: Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Test Automation: Understanding of test automation practices.
  • Metrics Setup: Ability to establish team performance metrics.

Expected Outcomes:

  • Support daily operational needs while becoming a subject matter expert.
  • Contribute to code maintenance and support for existing products and services.
  • Write and review user stories, facilitate agile ceremonies, and take ownership of product modules.
  • Supervise engineers across various experience levels, expanding the team as necessary.
  • Manage cross-functional teams to modernize and scale technology platforms.
  • Engage actively in the engineering community, conducting code reviews and sharing knowledge.
