Discover Meaningful Contributions:

Secures and maintains business for PPD, a division of Thermo Fisher Scientific, through professional, consultative, and proactive sales initiatives aimed at decision-makers and influencers within existing and prospective clinical sponsors. Positions PPD, part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, as a primary or preferred partner for all outsourced clinical development projects. Evaluates opportunities and formulates proposals, including defining solutions and recommending pricing structures to align with strategic corporate objectives. Acts as the main contact until agreements are finalized, subsequently coordinating with relevant clinical development teams to ensure effective implementation. Serves as a liaison between sponsors and the organization regarding all business development activities and requirements. Collects data on market trends and competitive offerings.

A Day in the Role:
  • Facilitates RFP strategy discussions, crafts client proposals, prepares client presentations, and negotiates and finalizes contracts. Secures new business authorizations at or above the designated authorization target.
  • Conducts outreach through cold calls and client meetings; maintains sales records; tracks cold call and client meeting activities.
  • Ensures client satisfaction through regular communication; reports and formulates recommendations to address client concerns; responds to all client inquiries.
  • Mentors and develops junior staff members.
  • Addresses diverse challenges where data analysis requires evaluation of identifiable factors.
  • Typically operates with minimal guidance on daily tasks, receiving general instructions for new assignments. Exhibits sound judgment in selecting methods and techniques for problem-solving.
  • Represents the department as a key contact on projects. Engages with internal and external stakeholders on significant matters often necessitating coordination across functional areas. Networks with senior personnel both internally and externally in relevant areas of expertise.
Keys to Success:Education
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant formal academic/vocational qualification.
Experience
  • Prior experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the role (equivalent to 5+ years) or a comparable combination of education, training, and experience. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Background in science, sales, and/or marketing with a focus on the pharmaceutical/biotech sector.
  • Proven success in developing mid- and high-level business relationships.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with Operations, Finance, Bids & Contracts, and Marketing, and to follow up to enhance relationships and business opportunities.
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying and cultivating sales leads, delivering professional presentations, managing the sales process through closure, and overseeing all aspects of contract negotiations.
  • Familiarity with sales automation systems and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
