Emerald Youth Foundation has been dedicated to empowering the youth of Knoxville since 1991, fostering generations of principled community leaders. Over the years, we have engaged over 30,000 children and young adults through various community initiatives. Annually, we support more than 3,000 youth in Knoxville with programs focused on faith, education, and health.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The role of the driver involves utilizing Emerald Youth Foundation vehicles for essential transportation services, including afterschool pickups, summer camp transit, and travel to sporting events as part of our diverse youth programs. The position may also encompass extended trips and other necessary transportation duties. Ensuring the safety of passengers, reporting any issues, and maintaining awareness of routes and vehicle condition are key responsibilities.

Schedule/Compensation:

  • Regular hours are typically Monday through Friday, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the academic year, with potential for extended hours based on trip requirements.
  • During summer months, hours generally fall between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., with variable weekend availability.
  • Occasional additional hours may be available for sports-related activities.
  • Compensation is set at $20/hour for driving time and $12/hour for waiting time.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate regular routes according to a predetermined schedule.
  • Maintain awareness of traffic patterns and adhere to all traffic regulations.
  • Ensure passenger safety throughout the journey.
  • Provide information regarding schedules, routes, and transfer points.
  • Report any accidents or traffic disruptions to the supervisor and follow alternative route instructions as necessary.
  • Assist passengers with disabilities or those requiring additional support.
  • Conduct basic vehicle maintenance checks, including tires, lights, and oil levels.
  • Comply with state and federal transit regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Committed Christian with a strong understanding of the Gospel and a passion for the mission of Emerald Youth Foundation; actively involved in a church community; recognized for integrity and high ethical standards.
  • Must be at least 21 years old with a clean driving record.
  • Possession of a current CDL with P-endorsement is required.
  • A minimum of three years of experience driving a designated route.
  • Willingness to participate in extended field trips, overnight events, and weekend travel throughout the year.
  • Experience in urban driving environments is preferred.
  • Previous ministry experience is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills are essential.
