Role Overview:

  • The Peer Recovery Support Specialist will deliver non-hospital based services aimed at providing short-term interventions to facilitate access to necessary resources and stabilization, thereby preventing emergency department visits and acute psychiatric hospitalizations.
  • Services will be offered to individuals who seek assistance or are referred from local emergency departments.
  • Initial engagement will be voluntary and directed towards adults (18 years and older) experiencing mental health challenges and/or co-occurring disorders in a behavioral health crisis.

Team Responsibilities:

  • The Peer Recovery Support Specialist is an integral member of a multi-disciplinary team, dedicated to providing education, rehabilitation, and support to individuals.
  • This role aims to instill hope in clients by connecting them with a support person who has lived experience with mental health or addiction services, willing to share their journey of recovery.

Work Environment:

  • The working environment consists of a specialized unit designed for comfort and care.
  • Operational hours are round-the-clock, requiring coverage at all times, including during adverse weather and holidays.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Daily Responsibilities:

  • Engage in crisis planning and response.
  • Provide one-on-one counseling and recovery coaching as needed.
  • Respond to all communications within a specified timeframe.
  • Complete assigned daily tasks before the end of each shift.
  • Adhere to a structured daily schedule to facilitate client progress.

2. Documentation Compliance:

  • Ensure all documentation meets organizational standards and is submitted punctually.

3. Team Collaboration:

  • Maintain punctuality and a reliable attendance record.
  • Stay alert and engaged during all shifts.
  • Foster effective communication with team members to provide safe and efficient support.
  • Promote a positive work environment through professional interactions with colleagues.
  • Address conflicts constructively and professionally.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and appropriate endorsements.

Compensation:

  • The starting salary for this position is competitive and based on relevant experience and education.

Schedule:

  • Flexibility in scheduling is required, including potential overnight shifts and holiday work.
  • Regular attendance is crucial for this role.

Travel Requirements:

  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are mandatory.
  • This position involves transporting clients as necessary.

Equipment/Technology:

  • Proficiency in computer use is essential.
  • Ability to learn and utilize electronic medical records and create necessary documentation.

Qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma is required, along with lived experience in behavioral health services or recovery.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a health-related field is preferred, or three years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge in cultural diversity, human development, and mental health treatment is essential.

Experience:

  • Experience working with individuals facing severe mental health challenges and co-occurring disorders is preferred.
  • Prior experience in crisis settings is advantageous.
  • Ability to share personal recovery experiences and assist clients in developing transition plans is necessary.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must remain alert and awake during shifts.
  • Possible exposure to biological hazards.
  • Ability to lift and move clients as needed.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is required (training provided).
