Job Summary

The Cecil County Library is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Part Time Library Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our Children's Services department, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service to children, families, and caregivers. Your primary focus will be on planning and delivering a wide range of programs, services, and outreach initiatives that cater to the diverse needs of our community.

Key Responsibilities

Provide information services, including readers advisory, homework help, reference, and technology assistance to children, families, and caregivers.
Collaborate with the Children's Services team to plan and implement library programs that meet the needs of our community.
Develop and implement outreach and collaborative programming with local schools and community-based organizations.
Actively market library services and programs to children and their parents/caregivers.
Merchandise collections and recommend books and other library materials through various media outlets.
Work with the Branch Manager to develop and implement department or branch goals within overall system goals.
Serve as a liaison to local elementary schools and community organizations serving children and their parents/caregivers.
Monitor and maintain the local juvenile collection and make recommendations for materials to be purchased.
Utilize the library's circulation database to search for and place holds on materials requested by patrons.
Represent the branch library on the system-wide children's services team.
May serve on system-wide committees.
Maintain facility and report problems to appropriate staff.
Maintain accurate service statistics.
Shelve library materials of all types.
Perform ongoing assignments of moderate to high difficulty.
May serve as Librarian in Charge (LIC).

Requirements

Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college.
Within two years of appointment, each Library Associate shall have successfully completed Library Associates' in-service training or nine credit hours of formal academic coursework in library science.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Previous experience working with children ages birth-11.
Excellent customer service skills.
Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
Ability to maintain composure and flexibility in a changing, public-facing environment.
Knowledge of Windows operating system, internet resources, social media, and other technologies and how to use them effectively.
Valid Driver's license.

Working Conditions

The Part Time Library Assistant will work in normal heat and light conditions with some exposure to seasonal draft conditions. Some eye fatigue may occur from working at computer terminals, and physical fatigue may occur from working at counter height and from repetitive lifting of books, moving wand, and pushing carts. Some stress may occur from constant public contact.

The Cecil County Library offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off. The Part Time Library Assistant will work 37.5 hours per week, with a regular schedule that requires evening, daytime, and weekend hours.
