Position Summary:

The Area Operations Manager is tasked with the comprehensive development, administration, and oversight of the ARC Family Thrift Stores, with an emphasis on generating net income to support the ARC Program.

Key Responsibilities:

Administrative Duties:

  • Formulates and executes business, strategic, and financial plans to enhance net revenue.
  • Conducts analyses of sales and productivity, forecasting and initiating necessary actions to meet strategic and financial objectives.
  • Provides evaluations based on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Financial Management:

  • Collaborates with the finance department to develop and oversee store budgets.
  • Works alongside store supervisors and managers to ensure income and expenses align with budgetary guidelines.
  • Reviews monthly budget reports to identify successes and areas needing attention.
  • Assists supervisors and managers in adjusting expenditures and staffing as indicated by reports.
  • Oversees the procurement and tracking of Goods Purchased for Resale (GPR).

Human Resources:

  • Recruits, interviews, and recommends candidates for the positions of Regional Manager 1 and Store Managers.
  • Manages the recruitment process for store personnel, ensuring adequate staffing levels.
  • Supports and mentors supervisors and managers in their leadership roles.
  • Ensures compliance with TSA Policies and Procedures for Human Resources at all levels.
  • Conducts periodic reviews of staffing ratios and payroll accuracy.
  • Finalizes payroll information biweekly for all store staff.
  • Facilitates monthly meetings with store supervisors and managers.
  • Assists managers in implementing corrective actions, ensuring all documentation aligns with TSA HR Policies and Procedures.

Store Management:

  • Oversees the forecasting and establishment of product acquisition, production, and sales targets for each store.
  • Coordinates with the Director of Operations/Production Supervisor to address store needs and ensure timely deliveries.
  • Acts as primary support for the Point of Sales system used in stores, addressing and communicating any issues to higher-level support.
  • Evaluates special donation offers for salability prior to acceptance.
  • Supports the implementation of operational policies, including store hours, banking procedures, and compliance with store manuals and directives.
  • Ensures store inventory, pricing, and merchandise marking adhere to established guidelines.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Operations to develop and implement Product Control Procedures to mitigate shrinkage.
  • Maintains Safe From Harm Guidelines in store operations.
  • Works with the leadership team and ARC Command to devise marketing strategies and sales initiatives.
  • Supervises the execution of marketing strategies within stores.
  • Ensures accurate and complete documentation of incident reports.
  • Conducts regular store inspections, providing feedback and training to uphold branding standards.

Program Oversight:

  • Collaborates with the ARC Director for Rehabilitative Services to assign, supervise, and train beneficiaries in stores, enhancing work therapy outcomes.

Property and Equipment Management:

  • Oversees property maintenance for stores, coordinating with the Director of Operations and maintenance teams.
  • Ensures store compliance with all safety and security policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates with TSA Leadership to identify opportunities for store expansion or contraction.
  • Submits all necessary financial, civic, property, and legal documents for processing and approval.
  • Completes and submits all required documents for lease renewals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Information

Minimum Qualifications:

The following qualifications are representative of the minimum education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education:

A bachelor's degree in business administration, retail management, or marketing is preferred; 4 years of experience in staff management and development or a combination of education and experience. Experience in thrift store management is preferred.

Certifications:

Valid Driver's License. Must be able to drive on behalf of The Salvation Army. Safe From Harm Trainer certification.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficient in spoken and written English for effective communication with leadership and field personnel.
  • Basic computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; proficiency in other proprietary software programs is required. Strong Excel skills are preferred.
  • Ability to problem-solve effectively.
  • Strong people development and management skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the recruitment and training of store staff.
  • Supervises the training and management of store supervisors and managers.
  • Conducts annual personnel reviews for direct reports.
  • Manages time and attendance for store personnel using the current payroll system, ensuring compliance with regulations and training.
  • Reviews and approves payroll for assigned departments/staff.

The employee frequently walks and reaches with hands and arms. Occasionally, the employee may climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Travel Requirements:

Must be able and willing to travel to various store locations regularly. Must be available to attend trainings as assigned.

Working Environment:

The work environment for this position is primarily within a store setting, which may have a quiet to moderate noise level. The environment may be dusty and subject to temperature fluctuations. The employee may be required to stand for extended periods. This is a full-time position that may require some weekend and evening work.
