Position Overview:

The Safety Operations Specialist will play a pivotal role in enhancing operational efficiency and safety within Norfolk Southern's Transportation Division.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and operational practices in compliance with federal regulations.
  • Analyze safety metrics, including incidents and efficiency tests, to identify areas for improvement and best practices.
  • Engage proactively with field crews to facilitate safety briefings and training sessions, fostering a culture of safety.
  • Lead joint assessments with division leaders to evaluate compliance with safety standards and operational rules.
  • Conduct thorough evaluations of safety data and prepare comprehensive reports for management.
  • Identify trends in compliance and recommend corrective actions, including training and monitoring initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Operating Rules Committee to discuss field practices and suggest rule modifications.
  • Serve as a resource for field operations, providing expertise on safety regulations and best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 5-10 years in safety management or related fields.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree preferred in fields such as Transportation Operations, Engineering, or Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Certifications: Preferred Certified Safety Professional (CSP).

Skills:

  • Proficient in data analysis and project management.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Work Environment:

  • Shift work and on-call responsibilities may be required.
