Job Overview

The Chief Credit Officer is responsible for the comprehensive oversight of the organization's lending portfolio, including loan approvals, risk assessment, and management of loan concentrations. This role provides essential guidance to the lending team and ensures that all loan policies and procedures are upheld to maintain the integrity of the lending portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Loan Committee, ensuring effective decision-making and oversight.
  • Oversee the risk management strategies to maintain quality control and minimize credit losses across the lending portfolio.
  • Chair the Loan Classification Committee, focusing on risk ratings, compliance, and recovery strategies for troubled loans.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of credit submissions to ensure adherence to sound underwriting standards.
  • Analyze financial metrics related to the lending portfolio, identifying potential risks and areas for improvement.
  • Manage credit risk associated with third-party relationships, establishing policies and metrics to inform management and the board.
  • Provide leadership to Loan Operations staff, setting clear expectations and performance standards.
  • Develop and implement the CECL model, providing ongoing analysis of loan loss reserves.
  • Act as the primary liaison with regulators, ensuring compliance and fostering credibility.
  • Guide and mentor direct reports, conducting regular performance evaluations.
  • Prepare detailed reports for management and the board regarding loan performance and trends.
  • Facilitate improvements in financial and management information systems related to the lending portfolio.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in leadership roles focused on credit and risk management.
  • Proficient in various software applications, including word processing and spreadsheet tools.
