Job Overview

The Chief Credit Officer is responsible for the comprehensive oversight of the bank's lending portfolio, including loan approvals, risk management, and loan concentrations. This role provides essential support and guidance to the lending team while ensuring that all loan policies and procedures are adhered to, maintaining the integrity of the bank's lending operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Loan Committee and oversee the bank's risk management strategies to mitigate credit risks and maintain quality control across all risk management processes.
  • Chair the Loan Classification Committee, ensuring that risk ratings, regulatory compliance, and loan policy adherence are consistently evaluated.
  • Review and assess credit applications to ensure they meet established underwriting standards and do not present excessive risk.
  • Analyze financial metrics of the bank's loan portfolio to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and identify potential risk areas.
  • Manage the end-to-end credit risk oversight for third-party relationships, developing policies and metrics to inform management about emerging credit risks.
  • Provide leadership to Loan Operations staff, setting clear expectations and performance standards.
  • Develop and implement the CECL model, conducting quarterly analyses of the loan loss allowance adequacy.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with regulators during safety and soundness examinations, fostering credibility with external auditors and third-party loan reviews.
  • Motivate and supervise direct reports, conducting regular performance reviews and pursuing professional development opportunities.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports for management and the Board of Directors regarding loan portfolio performance and trends.
  • Facilitate improvements in automated financial and management information systems related to the bank's loan portfolio.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in leadership roles focused on credit and risk management within consumer and commercial lending.
  • Proficient in Windows-based software, word processing, spreadsheet applications, and banking software.

Essential Skills:

  • Strong leadership capabilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of banking regulations, policies, and procedures related to lending.
  • Expertise in developing and implementing lending policies.
  • Ability to effectively communicate the organization's credit risk appetite.
  • Comprehensive understanding of business cash flow, collateral valuation, and appraisal processes.
