Job Summary

The Category Manager: Logistics and Drilling Services is a critical role within AngloGold Ashanti, responsible for managing the end-to-end strategic spend categories that are vital to the company's financial and operational success. This includes both supplier relationships and negotiations for defined strategic spend categories, which are crucial for the financial and operational success of the business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the development and implementation of the Global Category Management Strategy for defined areas of spend.
  • Support the Category Director on supplier relationship management and sourcing plans for defined categories.
  • Support the design and governance of a single company view of supply markets for defined categories.
  • Ensure proper documentation is in place to maintain SOX compliance for contracts and procedures managed for specific categories of strategic spend managed by Global Supply Chain.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with internal stakeholders and suppliers to assess or improve the quality of the procurement and purchasing process, including increased participation of the in-country supply base where applicable.
  • Collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative information to assess supplier capability and performance.
  • Drive up-to-date market analysis and benchmarking.
  • Support Business Improvement and BUs by providing functional expertise for defined categories of spend.
  • Collect, investigate, and analyze information as requested by the Category Director using data from internal and external sources for:
    • Should Cost modeling
    • Price Discipline
    • Solution modeling
    • Advanced analytics
    • Market Intelligence
    • Spend Segmentation
    • Operational Excellence Process Support
  • Advise the Category Director on supply chain-related risks and opportunities and communicate these to peers in business units and operations.
  • Assist the Category Director in developing category market and supplier updates to be shared with business leadership quarterly.
  • Collaborate across the group and share internal and external best practices across all supply chain functions.
  • Drive and develop the negotiation strategy for high-value contracts for Drilling Services, aligned to market values and cost estimation principles, to unlock value and efficiencies for the category.
  • Assist in the execution of the overall category strategy, including supplier opportunity assessments, financial analysis, negotiations, and long-term contract establishment. Using industry trends, drilling cost drivers, global pricing, best practices, benchmarking, equipment life cycle cost analysis.
  • Build the internal should-cost model mapped to each site's drilling requirements and market dynamics.
  • Structure Drilling contracts to unlock performance efficiencies, mitigate risk, and optimize cost per meter.
  • Analyze and develop business cases to enable decision-making.
  • Draft tendering documents and contracts.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and manage Supplier Relationship Management, setting joint objectives and KPIs with suppliers to enable proper contract management routines.
  • Utilize market intelligence and strategic sourcing principles to drive benefits realization for AGA.
  • Promote efficient, effective, and consistent category review and analysis.
  • Identify and analyze opportunities within the drilling services category.
  • Manage the tactical delivery of major contracts and tenders for Drilling Services.
  • Manage contracts through SAP to ensure compliance and efficient contract management.
  • Implement and manage the category portfolio budget, ensuring alignment with expenditures and contributing to budget planning cycles for the categories under management.
  • Solid understanding of AGA's Time Usage Metrics and formulas to boost effective drilling time and reduce the cost per meter.
  • Implement External Spend TCO strategies to reduce Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) on external spend:
    • Manage a standard approach for category management across the group to drive a cost leadership culture.
  • Implement buy-better and spend-better strategies to manage spend, scope future requirements, and understand the external market.
  • Utilize a structured Category Management Playbook:
    • Manage a four-stage approach: Review, Strategize, Execute, and Track.
    • Consolidate internal fact base and external market intelligence to identify TCO opportunities.
    • Develop implementation roadmaps and transition initiatives to the Full Potential Hub.
    • Track benefits and improvements in key metrics through a monthly review process.
  • Execute Full Asset Potential Refresh:
    • Manage site-by-site improvement projects across LOM strategy, mining, processing, and external spend.
    • Implement a two-year rolling program for site-level refreshes, with findings fed back to global and regional category management.
  • Drive Supplier Relationship Management:
    • Set joint objectives and KPIs with suppliers to enable proper contract management routines.
    • Establish appropriate cadences for performance monitoring based on the criticality of the operation and strategic nature of agreements.
    • Drive continuous improvement opportunities through jointly developed projects with suppliers.
  • Define and Track Value:
    • Manage value tracking in five key sources: Direct spend (Opex), Capital Spend, Working Capital, TCO Impacts, and Cost Avoidance.
    • Set annual targets based on category strategy reviews, with value estimates reported with confidence intervals from RS0 to RS4.
  • Enable Reporting:
    • Implement Savings/Value Delivery and Price/Volume Variance reports to set leading and lagging indicators for value delivery and strategic focus.
    • Leverage the Full Potential Hub for consistent reporting, transparency, and active management of initiatives.
Requirements
  • Minimum BA in Business or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years business experience covering relevant category or experience in a commercial analytical role.

  • Communicates clearly and engages with the Category Director and Supply Chain BU peers on strategy, analytics, and execution.

  • Utilizes advanced analytics to solve complex situations.
  • Builds complex scenario models to validate category solution strategies.
  • Develops templates and solutions to improve the category and ensure excellence.
  • Self-starter who can independently manage the category.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with BU stakeholders and suppliers.
Conditions of Employment

This is a full-time, exempt position in the Denver Office.

Compensation

$130,000 - $155,000
