PROGRAM OBJECTIVE:

The Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) initiative is dedicated to safeguarding the health, safety, and welfare of personnel, visitors, and the surrounding ecosystem. Key functions of the EH&S program encompass the formulation and execution of safety protocols, risk evaluation and management, adherence to legal standards, safety assessments, and collaboration with various stakeholders.


INTERNSHIP SUMMARY:

Guided by the EH&S Manager, the EH&S Intern will gain practical experience in crafting and revising safety protocols, conducting Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), selecting personal protective equipment (PPE), performing Process Safety Evaluations, conducting Ergonomic Assessments, and executing safety evaluations and inspections. The intern will comply with pertinent EH&S regulations, standards, and guidelines while developing procedures, conducting evaluations, and performing inspections. They will collaborate closely with managers and personnel from diverse museum departments to ensure effective communication and teamwork.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Engage in safety procedural evaluations and inspections across the Museum, concentrating on identifying potential risks and assessing current safety measures.
  • Work alongside the EH&S Manager and departmental supervisors to pinpoint equipment and processes that necessitate updates or new safety protocols and JSAs.
  • Conduct interviews, observations, and research to collect essential information for revising safety protocols and JSAs.
  • Carry out routine inspections of safety equipment.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently pursuing a degree or coursework in environmental health and safety, occupational health and safety, public health, or a related discipline. Must be actively enrolled or nearing graduation.
  • Strong attention to detail is vital for conducting inspections, documenting findings, and recognizing potential hazards or deficiencies in safety equipment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Capability to work autonomously, take initiative, and collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

Experience in delivering training, conducting safety and health inspections, and working with databases.


INTERNSHIP DURATION: Fall Semester

WORK SCHEDULE: Weekdays only. Flexible shifts, 20-28 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

COMPENSATION: The pay rate for internships is competitive.
