Position Overview

The External Communications Strategist plays a vital role within the Community Transit communications team. This individual will be responsible for crafting engaging content and messaging that highlights Community Transit’s significant impact on mobility, economic growth, and environmental sustainability in Snohomish County, as well as promoting ridership of its services. The role involves articulating the agency's offerings, capital projects, programs, and initiatives to both the general public and specialized audiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Content Creation: Develops and curates content for various platforms, including blog posts, fact sheets, brochures, and presentations aimed at public audiences. Reviews and refines written materials produced by others, providing constructive feedback and suggestions for enhancement.
  • Strategic Planning: Takes ownership of strategic communication initiatives aimed at external stakeholders. Formulates and executes plans to effectively reach target audiences and promote agency services and programs.
  • Implementation of Communication Strategies: Collaborates with colleagues from different departments to ensure cohesive communication on projects and initiatives.
  • Digital Communication: Produces electronic communications, including social media updates and website content. Responsible for capturing and editing photographs and videos to support digital outreach efforts.
  • Representation: Acts as a representative of Community Transit in various professional settings, including meetings and public forums.
  • Budget Management: Assists in the formulation of the External Communications work plan and budget.
  • Undertakes additional duties as required, providing support to other departmental functions as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • A minimum of five years of professional experience in creating external-facing communications such as fact sheets and brochures.
  • At least three years of experience in content strategy, editorial planning, and content development.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience that meets the essential duties of the position may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proficient in various writing styles, including AP style.
  • Strong business communication skills, with a focus on grammar and punctuation.
  • Understanding of public relations principles and practices.

Working Conditions:

This position involves light work, requiring the ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally. The role includes repetitive motions and substantial hand movements. The employee must possess close visual acuity for tasks such as data analysis and extensive reading. Work is primarily conducted in an office environment, necessitating the operation of standard office equipment and the ability to navigate between different locations.
