Job Overview
The Senior Nuclear Safety Engineer plays a pivotal role in providing expert nuclear safety guidance for fuel production processes at GE Vernova. This position requires a deep understanding of nuclear safety protocols and engineering principles to assess operational procedures and enforce robust nuclear safety measures. Collaboration with engineering and operational teams is essential to guarantee the secure and compliant production of nuclear fuel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare Nuclear Criticality Safety Evaluations (NCSEs) to validate safety for new or modified fuel production operations.
  • Analyze standard and potential abnormal scenarios for facilities and operations.
  • Define criticality limits on regulated parameters, outline criticality control requirements, and conduct neutronics assessments.
  • Assist senior criticality safety personnel in creating Monte Carlo code validation documentation.
  • Engage in Integrated Safety Analysis (ISA) team discussions to aid in the formulation of process hazard evaluations and associated risk analyses.
  • Review and sanction design modifications, ensuring that criticality safety implications are thoroughly considered.
  • Examine and endorse facility documentation, including procedures and training materials, to confirm the proper implementation of criticality standards.
  • Support regular inspections by regulatory bodies concerning facility operations and the criticality safety framework.
  • Advise project and operations management on criticality safety program matters and the application of safety controls.
  • Conduct periodic audits of facility operations and oversee the effectiveness of safety measures.
  • Participate in the site Emergency Organization as a member of the hazard assessment team and as a backup Nuclear Safety Advisor.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related scientific field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in Criticality Safety.
Eligibility Criteria
  • Must successfully complete a Nuclear Safety Training Test for Controlled Access Areas; adhere to stringent radiation protection, criticality, and industrial safety regulations; and wear protective gear when necessary.
  • Willingness and capability to ascend 10 flights of stairs, twice daily.
Preferred Attributes
  • Expertise in Monte Carlo methods such as KENO and MCNP.
  • Experience applying the double contingency principle and drafting NCSEs.
  • Background in a nuclear fuel production environment.
  • Familiarity with 10CFR70 licensing and ISA program execution.
  • Advanced degree (MS or Ph.D.) in Nuclear Engineering or Physics.
  • Ability to devise innovative solutions for complex challenges.
  • Skill in articulating intricate concepts to a non-technical audience.
  • Proven history of effectively resolving technical challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication capabilities.
  • Exceptional written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence regulatory bodies, leadership, and engineering teams.
  • Experience as part of an Emergency Organization.
This position necessitates access to U.S. export-controlled information. Final offers will depend on the ability to secure authorization for access to such information from the U.S. Government.
