Position Overview

DPR Construction is in search of a skilled Estimator with a minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial construction projects. The Estimator will focus on negotiated electrical commercial projects across our primary sectors: healthcare, higher education, advanced technology, life sciences, and commercial. This role involves close collaboration with architects, engineers, owners, and subcontractors, playing a vital role in the success of our projects and the achievement of our mission.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Exhibit a strong understanding and commitment to the vision and mission of DPR Construction.
  • Manage the project from initial estimate through to project handoff.
  • Possess the ability to analyze information critically, ask pertinent questions, and deliver comprehensive project cost evaluations.
  • Act as a collaborative advocate for our clients, providing support and guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Demonstrate proactivity in offering innovative solutions to complex challenges related to costs, timelines, trade partners, and specified materials.
  • Make accurate cost predictions and confidently estimate across various scopes of work.
  • Prepare detailed conceptual cost estimates and studies based on schematic and feasibility documentation.
  • Develop variance summaries between estimates and value engineering studies as designs evolve.
  • Compile a thorough presentation of the estimate package that effectively communicates project costs.
  • Collaborate with the project team to define necessary staffing and project requirements.
  • Possess a solid understanding of unit costs and the factors influencing construction expenses.
  • Prepare detailed instructions for bidders, trade-specific clarifications, and comprehensive bid packages.
  • Manage the bidding process, including soliciting bids, engaging with bidders, and evaluating subcontractor proposals.
  • Provide recommendations for subcontractor awards to clients and negotiate final agreements with trade partners.
  • Participate in and often lead the preparation and presentation of cost and budget information to clients.
  • Contribute as a team member in responses to requests for proposals (RFPs) and formal project presentations.
  • Engage and cultivate business relationships with both new and existing clients.
  • Show willingness to actively participate in Value Engineering sessions with project and design teams.
Qualifications:
  • Detail-oriented team player capable of managing multiple tasks while producing high-quality work and meeting deadlines.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Creative and innovative problem-solving abilities tailored to individual project needs.
  • Capability to identify, adapt to, and resolve complex issues effectively.
  • Strong participation skills in both external and internal team environments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, estimating software (e.g., WinEst, Timberline), take-off software (e.g., Accubid Livecount), BIM tools (e.g., Revit), project management software (e.g., CMiC), and scheduling software (e.g., Primavera).
  • 5+ years of experience in Electrical Commercial Construction as an Estimator, ideally within DPR's core markets.
  • Experience with Design/Build and Design/Assist projects is advantageous.
  • A Bachelor's degree is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Field experience is a plus but not required.
