The Estimator will focus on negotiated electrical projects within key sectors such as healthcare, higher education, advanced technology, life sciences, and commercial enterprises. This role requires close collaboration with architects, engineers, owners, and subcontractors to ensure the successful execution of projects and the fulfillment of our mission.
Key Responsibilities:
- Exhibit a clear understanding and commitment to the vision and mission of DPR Construction.
- Manage the project from initial estimate through to project handoff.
- Possess the ability to delve deeper than the provided information, ask pertinent questions, and deliver comprehensive project cost evaluations.
- Act as a collaborative advocate for clients, providing guidance and support throughout the project lifecycle.
- Proactively offer innovative solutions to complex challenges related to costs, timelines, trade partners, and specified materials.
- Demonstrate the ability to make accurate cost predictions and comfortably estimate across various scopes of work.
- Prepare detailed conceptual cost estimates and studies based on schematic and feasibility documentation.
- Develop variance summaries between estimates and value engineering studies as the design progresses.
- Compile a comprehensive estimate package that effectively communicates project costs.
- Collaborate with the project team to define necessary staffing and project requirements.
- Possess a strong understanding of unit costs and the factors influencing construction expenses.
- Prepare detailed instructions for bidders, trade-specific clarifications, and thorough bid packages.
- Manage the bidding process, including soliciting bids, engaging with bidders, and evaluating subcontractor proposals.
- Recommend subcontractor awards to clients and negotiate final contracts with trade partners.
- Participate in and often lead the preparation and presentation of cost and budget information to clients.
- Contribute as a team member in responses to requests for proposals (RFPs) and formal project presentations.
- Engage in business development with both new and existing clients.
- Show willingness to actively participate in Value Engineering sessions with project and design teams.
Qualifications:
- Detail-oriented team player capable of managing multiple tasks while consistently meeting deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Creative and innovative problem-solving abilities on a project-by-project basis.
- Strong aptitude for identifying, adapting to, and resolving complex issues.
- Effective participation in a collaborative team environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, estimating software (such as WinEst or Timberline), take-off software (like Accubid Livecount), BIM tools (including Revit), project management software (such as CMiC), and scheduling software (like Primavera).
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in Electrical Commercial Construction as an Estimator, ideally within DPR's core markets.
- Experience with Design/Build and Design/Assist projects is advantageous.
- A Bachelor's degree is preferred but not mandatory.
- Field experience is a plus but not required.
