Position Summary

Compass Group's Legal Department at its U.S. headquarters is seeking a dedicated Associate Counsel specializing in procurement. This role involves providing comprehensive legal support for procurement activities across Compass Group and its subsidiary, Foodbuy, LLC. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in aligning commercial objectives with legal frameworks, ensuring a balanced approach to business operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a diverse range of procurement-related legal matters, focusing primarily on food and beverage categories, technology, equipment, and distribution services. Familiarity with group purchasing is advantageous.
  • Contribute to the formulation and execution of sourcing strategies while overseeing essential operational controls and policies pertinent to procurement.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating the template library, including conducting training sessions and developing procedural documentation.
  • Provide insights on legal regulations, industry trends, and corporate policies relevant to procurement, food safety, supply chain transparency, and sustainability.
  • Support various departments as directed by the Managing Counsel.
Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited institution with valid state licensure.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the specified duties, acquired through either a law firm or an in-house legal environment.
  • Expertise in procurement agreements, group purchasing, distribution, and foodservice/hospitality is preferred. A solid background in commercial transaction advisory is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively identify and implement innovative solutions while delivering excellent customer service and fostering effective communication with clients and colleagues.
  • Competence in analyzing and interpreting legal documents, regulations, and financial reports, with a strong grasp of procurement-related legal principles.
  • Capacity to foresee, identify, and articulate issues from both legal and corporate perspectives, gathering data, establishing facts, and drawing logical conclusions based on sound judgment.
  • A collaborative team player in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
