ID: ADC-137
Location: Washington
Program: ACE
Compensation: $50.00/hr
Weekly Commitment: 20 hours
Eligibility Age: 55 and older
The Agricultural Conservation Experienced Services (ACES) Program presents a unique opportunity for individuals aged 55 and above to contribute to the vital work of the Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). This program is designed to leverage your extensive skills and experience in a meaningful way, working closely with NRCS staff on significant conservation initiatives.
Benefits: Participants in this program will receive paid health insurance premiums for roles budgeted at 60+ hours per pay period, along with accrued vacation and sick leave, paid federal holidays, and optional vision and dental insurance for positions budgeted at 35+ hours per pay period.
Please note that participation in the ACES program is temporary and does not guarantee employment for any specific duration. The relationship between the participant and National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions) is considered 'at-will', allowing either party to terminate the relationship at any time.
It is important to clarify that an 'ACES Enrollee' is not classified as a federal employee or an employee of NEW Solutions. Instead, they are participants in a grant program established through a Cooperative Agreement funded by the USDA-NRCS and administered by NEW Solutions.
This opportunity is available to applicants who are legally authorized to work in the United States.
Applicants should possess a minimum of 20 years of experience in planning and executing agricultural and natural resource management programs specifically related to grazing lands. Direct experience in working with agricultural producers on conservation planning, including the inventory, assessment, and monitoring of grazing land conservation practices, is essential. Proficiency with NRCS's technical tools for grazing lands, such as HRH, PCS, ESDs, and NRI, is required. Alternatively, a Master's degree in Agriculture or Animal Husbandry will be considered.
- Possession of a valid state driver's license.
- Proficiency in Windows, MS Word, and MS Excel is required.
This role will support the Ecological Science Division at the National Headquarters, as well as associated NRCS Technical Centers and states across the country. The enrollee will work independently and remotely, engaging directly with USDA customers and NRCS personnel. Effective communication with NRCS field operations staff and agricultural producers regarding specific projects will be essential. Responsibilities include:
- Providing training, mentoring, and coaching to less-experienced staff involved in the grazing program, focusing on NRCS's inventory, assessment, planning, and monitoring processes (50%).
- Assisting in the inventory, assessment, planning, and monitoring of conservation practices using NRCS's technical tools for grazing lands (30%).
- Supporting technical data collection (both in-field and office-based) for conservation plans and Farm Bill contract participation nationwide (10%).
- Assisting the National Grazing Lands Discipline Lead with additional activities related to Farm Bill Program planning, implementation, and monitoring as required (10%).
- Completion of annual training in information system security, anti-harassment, and civil rights is mandatory.
- Travel may be required occasionally to fulfill the duties of this position.
- Anticipated overnight travel: Approximately one trip per month.
- Air travel may be necessary: Approximately one trip per month.
- Remote work arrangements are available for this position.
NEW Solutions is dedicated to fostering equal opportunity and maintaining an environment free from discrimination and harassment in all forms while administering Experienced Worker Programs under cooperative agreements with federal agencies. The organization is committed to complying with all applicable laws that ensure equal opportunity and prohibit unlawful discrimination in participant enrollment in federal programs.
