The Agricultural Conservation Experienced Services (ACES) Program presents a unique opportunity for individuals aged 55 and above to contribute to the Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). This initiative, administered by National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions), values your expertise and experience in scientific, technical, and agricultural support roles. Participants will collaborate closely with NRCS staff engaged in essential conservation work.

Qualifications:
Applicants should possess a minimum of 20 years of experience in planning and executing agricultural and natural resource management programs focused on grazing lands. Direct experience with agricultural producers in conservation planning, including the inventory, assessment, and monitoring of grazing land practices, is essential. Familiarity with NRCS's grazing lands technical tools, such as HRH, PCS, ESDs, and NRI, is required. Alternatively, a MA/MS Degree in Agriculture or Animal Husbandry is acceptable.

  • Must hold a valid State Driver's License.
  • Proficiency in Windows, MS Word, and MS Excel is necessary.

Key Responsibilities:
This role involves assisting the Ecological Science Division at NHQ and collaborating with NRCS Technical Centers and state offices across the nation. The position requires independent and remote work, engaging directly with USDA customers and NRCS personnel. Effective communication with NRCS field operations staff and agricultural producers is crucial for discussing specific projects related to conservation planning and monitoring.

  • Provide training, mentoring, and coaching to junior staff in the grazing program area, focusing on NRCS's inventory, assessment, planning, and monitoring processes (50%).
  • Assist in the inventory, assessment, planning, and monitoring of conservation practices, utilizing NRCS's technical tools for grazing lands (30%).
  • Support technical data collection (both in-field and office-based) for conservation plans and Farm Bill contract participation nationwide (10%).
  • Collaborate with the National Grazing Lands Discipline Lead on additional activities supporting Farm Bill Program planning and implementation as needed (10%).

Additional Information:

  • Annual training on information system security, anti-harassment, and civil rights is required.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary to fulfill job duties.
  • Overnight travel is anticipated approximately once a month.
  • Remote work arrangements are available for this position.
