Key Responsibilities
  • Provide education and support to clients on safe drug use, overdose prevention, and infectious disease transmission.
  • Offer referrals to recovery treatment, behavioral health, medical care, and dental care.
  • Maintain awareness of and compliance with regulatory changes related to harm reduction approaches.
  • Promote recovery skills and self-efficacy while presenting a caring and compassionate attitude.
  • Establish trusting relationships with clients and model skills or behaviors needed to achieve and maintain recovery.
  • Understand the role of Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) in achieving and maintaining sobriety and adhere to clinical policies and procedures.
  • Encourage and support adherence to clinical treatment plans, including MAT, and advocate on clients' behalf as they seek to overcome barriers to recovery.
  • Promote comprehensive health to recovery and wellness, including primary care, dental care, and health-promoting behaviors.
  • Assist individuals with accessing other recovery supports, such as transportation programs, pre-treatment and recovery housing, childcare, and employment opportunities.
  • Provide support and advocacy to individuals involved with the criminal justice system.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and resolve work-related difficulties in a timely fashion.
  • Meet regularly with the supervisor and communicate concerns or questions regarding individual clients or program aspects.
  • Consult, collaborate, and communicate externally with other service providers, schools, law enforcement agencies, courts, etc., in compliance with HIPAA and as required by law.
  • Maintain required records of services provided and patient outcomes, completing all documentation in a timely manner according to policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Lived experience with problematic substance use, behavior change, and recovery.
  • Knowledge and understanding of services available to individuals with substance use disorders.
  • Certified through OhioMHAS as an Ohio Peer Supporter.
  • Skills in crisis intervention and de-escalation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain clinically effective relationships with clients.
  • Ability to meet agency requirements for criminal background check.
  • Valid Ohio driver's license and motor vehicle liability insurance.
  • Ability to function as part of an organization by working with others and adhering to established policies and procedures.
  • Knowledgeable of and adherent to all pertinent federal, state, and local laws, standards of the Ohio Department of Mental Health, and professional ethical standards.
