Job Summary:

As a Benefits Specialist with Cherokee Nation, you will play a vital role in assisting employees, providers, and third-party administrators with eligibility and insurance claims filing processes. Your attention to detail and organizational skills will be essential in preparing and reconciling billing, maintaining spreadsheet logs, and disseminating benefit eligibility and claims information.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist employees, providers, and third-party administrators with eligibility and claims filing processes.
  • Verify participation, eligibility, level, and type of benefit by telephone and/or written notice.
  • Verify and reconcile billing for self-administered and traditional benefit programs.
  • Prepare reconciliation schedules reflecting adjusting/correcting entries for additions, deletions, type, eligibility, and services provided to insured.
  • Prepare appropriate check requests for payment, obtaining authorized signatures.
  • Compose reports and correspondence.
  • Maintain eligibility logs and files.
  • Track participant eligibility and payments.
  • Generate related reports.
  • Conduct new employee orientation and/or open enrollment, enrolling eligible employees in respective benefit programs.
  • Design and conduct training on benefit-related policies, processes, and regulations.
  • Coordinate claim and/or loan filing processes.
  • Verify eligibility and comply with required paperwork.
  • Submit completed documentation for appropriate signature.
  • Maintain schedules and logs on various benefit programs.
  • Reconcile payroll deductions with monthly billings.
  • Prepare respective reports.
  • Attend meetings.
Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree from a two-year college or technical school in Business Administration or a related field.
  • Three years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • May include two years or more of undergraduate college coursework.
  • Additional two years of experience in a related business field is required.
  • Prefer one year of experience in the insurance field.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.
Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to stand, sit, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
