Job Overview

Position Summary

The Campus Safety Officer is responsible for the surveillance, inspection, and safeguarding of educational facilities and surrounding areas to deter criminal activity and respond effectively to emergencies. This role includes enforcing traffic and parking regulations, providing assistance to students, staff, and visitors, and remaining vigilant in emergency situations to deliver immediate response.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Conduct regular patrols and inspections of campus facilities to ensure safety and security.
  2. Implement and uphold security protocols and procedures.
  3. Quickly assess situations to determine the necessity of law enforcement intervention or appropriate actions.
  4. Assist with managing traffic flow and pedestrian safety as required.
  5. Respond promptly to incidents related to safety and security.
  6. Prevent criminal behavior and violence through proactive measures.
  7. Issue citations for parking infractions on campus property.
  8. Maintain accurate records of incidents, security logs, and other necessary documentation.
  9. Compile reports and gather statements as needed.
  10. Report any missing traffic signs, signals, or other safety concerns.
  11. Provide safety and security support during campus events.
  12. Offer escort services and general assistance to the campus community.
  13. Deliver information and guidance to students, staff, and visitors.
  14. Perform routine maintenance on campus vehicles and report any maintenance needs.
  15. Travel throughout the campus as necessary.
  16. Act as a Campus Security Authority.
  17. Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Position Information

Required Qualifications
  1. Education: A college certificate or an associate's degree is preferred, or a minimum of 30 college credit hours.
  2. Experience: At least one year of relevant work experience is preferred.
Essential Skills and Abilities
  1. Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  2. Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  3. Strong situational awareness and decision-making abilities.
  4. Ability to maintain composure in high-pressure situations.
  5. Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  6. Capability to travel across the campus using personal or college vehicles.
  7. Commitment to the mission and vision of the institution.
  8. Ability to interpret safety regulations and procedural documents.
  9. Proficient in writing reports and correspondence.
  10. Ability to follow detailed instructions and solve problems in standardized situations.
Certifications and Requirements
  1. This position is security-sensitive and requires a background check.
  2. A valid driver's license and proof of insurance are necessary.
  3. CPR and First Aid certifications are required or must be obtained within six months of employment.
Physical Demands
  1. Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds occasionally.
  2. Capability to bend and reach as needed.
  3. Ability to perceive sounds and communicate effectively.
  4. Visual acuity for tasks such as monitoring and inspections.
  5. Mobility to navigate the campus effectively.
Work Environment
  1. Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
