Job Summary:

The Finance and Budget Assistant will provide financial and budgetary support to the Office of the Director, Field Operations Finance Division (FOFD). The incumbent will assist in the preparation of budget proposals, extract information from computerized information systems, and perform preliminary analyses of extracted data.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the preparation of supporting documents for budget proposals, including narrative and supporting tables.
  • Extract information and generate expenditure reports from computerized information systems.
  • Perform preliminary analyses of extracted data and highlight areas of concern.
  • Develop resource requirements for budget submissions and prepare budget performance submissions.
  • Research and compile data required by Finance/Budget Officers in the review and analysis of relevant proposals.
  • Consolidate data and provide support to Finance/Budget Officers with respect to budget reviews of intergovernmental and expert bodies.
  • Assist in the preparation and finalization of budget performance reports, performing preliminary analysis of variances between approved budgets and actual expenditures.
  • Assist in the preparation of budget instructions for peacekeeping operations.
  • Review draft reports, verifying overall accuracy, consistency, and uniformity in the presentation, and ensuring comprehensiveness and compliance with the format prescribed by the Editorial and Documents control of DGACM.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in finance, budget, administrative services, or related areas is required.
  • Experience in the use of information technology programs related to spreadsheets, databases, and word processing is desirable.
  • Experience working with a senior official in the front office in the United Nations or a similar international organization is desirable.
  • Experience in the use of enterprise resource planning systems (such as SAP) is desirable.
Language Requirements:

Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
