The Kansas Funeral Directors Association (KFDA) is a prominent statewide organization representing funeral homes, directors, and embalmers. The KFDA is in search of a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to oversee the association and its affiliated entities, which include a for-profit corporation and a charitable foundation.

Mission Statement

The mission of the association is to advocate for and support funeral professionals throughout the state.

Position Overview

The CEO will act as the principal executive officer of the association, operating under the guidance of a Board of Directors. The CEO will be responsible for the comprehensive management of the association's operations. Ideal candidates will possess experience in a similar organizational setting, preferably within an association framework, and have a solid understanding of association management principles.

Key Responsibilities

Board Engagement

The CEO will collaborate with the Board of Directors to fulfill the association's mission. Responsibilities include organizing Board meetings, coordinating logistics, preparing agendas, and documenting minutes. The CEO will contribute to the establishment of organizational goals and stay updated on relevant industry issues.

Financial Oversight

The CEO will manage the organization's finances, including preparing and adhering to an annual budget approved by the Board. This role requires knowledge of accounting principles, bookkeeping, payroll, and compliance with tax regulations.

Membership Management

Maintaining an accurate membership database is crucial. The CEO will ensure that member records are current, dues are collected, and new members are actively recruited.

Advocacy Efforts

The CEO will serve as the association's lobbyist, engaging with legislative bodies and regulatory agencies on funeral-related matters. Building strong relationships with government officials and organizations with aligned goals is essential.

Communication Strategies

The CEO will oversee the maintenance of the association's website and manage communications, including the publication of an association magazine several times a year.

Event Coordination

Planning the association's annual convention, trade shows, and educational seminars is a key responsibility. This includes securing venues, organizing agendas, and managing registrations.

Office Management

The CEO will supervise the general management of the association's office, including maintenance and tenant relations.

Professional Qualifications

Candidates should possess a Bachelor's degree and have at least three years of experience in association or organizational management. A background in law and knowledge of the funeral service industry is advantageous.

Technical Skills

Proficiency in financial management software, particularly QuickBooks, as well as familiarity with Microsoft Office and database management is required.

Travel Requirements

The position necessitates travel for conventions and conferences.
