School Safety Officer, Kansas Peace Officers Association
The Kansas Peace Officers Association is currently seeking qualified candidates for the role of School Safety Officer.

This position necessitates prior completion of training from an accredited law enforcement training facility, along with a minimum of one year of experience in law enforcement.

This is a full-time role, where School Safety Officers (SSOs) will function as deputy sheriffs assigned to patrol duties during non-school hours.

Typically, SSOs will work Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM during the academic year and are expected to participate in all home sporting events and other school-related activities as designated by the educational institution.

SSOs are provided with:
Uniforms, duty equipment, footwear, firearms, body cameras, a take-home vehicle, and any additional tools necessary for the role. The starting salary is $3,604.23 per month, with opportunities for overtime and compensatory time for events worked.
General Employment Requirements:
Candidates must possess a valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.
A high school education or equivalent is required.
Successful completion of a background check, psychological evaluation, physical examination, and drug screening is mandatory.
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age by the time of hiring.

Key Responsibilities:
The following responsibilities are typical for this position. These are not exhaustive and additional duties may be assigned.

Collaborate with school administration to ensure the safety and security of students, staff, and faculty.

Enforce local, state, and federal laws while assisting school officials in upholding school policies and regulations.

Collect information regarding potential issues such as criminal activities, gang involvement, and student unrest.

Provide security at school events and functions.

Educate staff on laws related to tobacco, alcohol, and other substances, while providing leadership in addressing these matters.

Refer students and families to appropriate support services when necessary.

Act as a deputy sheriff during school breaks, in emergencies, or as directed by the Sheriff.

Perform additional duties as mutually agreed upon by the Kansas Peace Officers Association and the educational institution.
