Position Overview

The ABWK Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting ABWK Site Supervisors, Construction Assistants, ABWK volunteers, and homeowners in the painting and rehabilitation of Habitat homes. Members will commit to serving four ten-hour days each week.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist Supervisors in preparing ABWK sites for daily painting and rehabilitation tasks
    1. Collaborate with Site Supervisors to identify necessary materials and tools
  • Participate as a member of ABWK teams, executing various painting and construction duties as directed by Supervisors, while working collaboratively with volunteers and homeowners
  • When assigned, lead volunteer and homeowner teams
    1. Communicate tasks clearly
    2. Instruct on the proper use of materials and tools
    3. Address inquiries and provide feedback on assignments
  • Engage in AmeriCorps-related activities as required
    1. Attend orientation at the start of service
    2. Participate in scheduled affiliate, program, and statewide AmeriCorps events
Essential Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or lawful permanent resident
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Must pass background checks, including sex offender and FBI fingerprint checks
  • Provide contact information for one professional reference
  • Access to reliable transportation is necessary
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic and initiative
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Capable of navigating uneven surfaces and using stairs, as well as working on ladders up to 40 feet high
  • Ability to bend, lift, grasp, reach, push, and pull materials and tools
  • Effective verbal communication skills for detailed information exchange
  • Occasional lifting and moving of loads up to 75 pounds
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to learn and apply safety protocols, painting and construction terminology, and general techniques
  • Capability to train volunteers in basic painting and construction methods
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Aptitude for making routine decisions and solving problems
  • Flexibility in adapting to varying communication styles, assignments, and service hours
  • Basic math skills for calculations and problem-solving
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Familiarity with basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle independently
  • Prior volunteer experience is preferred
Work Environment

The majority of the role is performed outdoors on existing homes, with some interior projects. Frequent exposure to dirt, dust, dampness, construction debris, lead paint, mold, extreme temperatures, and construction-related noises and odors is expected.

Tools and Equipment

Use of hand and power tools, including hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, utility knives, tape measures, scissors, drills, and reciprocating saws, along with appropriate safety equipment and clothing.
