Construction Site Manager

The Construction Site Manager oversees all daily on-site building activities on designated new construction and renovation projects.

This role includes ensuring the safety and efficiency of volunteers, contractors, subcontractors, National Service Members, and interns, while facilitating the creation of well-constructed homes and providing a rewarding experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage construction tasks on assigned projects
  • Comprehensively review construction documents
  • Ensure accuracy of material estimates and schedules, performing material take-offs from plans
  • Organize and approve all project supplies and materials
  • Source necessary materials from suppliers and the warehouse
  • Coordinate project subcontractors
  • Develop initial project timelines and communicate volunteer requirements to the Construction Manager
  • Oversee all personnel on the construction site
  • Supervise land development tasks as assigned
  • Provide guidance and instruction in rough and finish carpentry, roofing, siding, masonry, cement finishing, drywall installation, and various flooring types as needed
  • Ensure compliance with relevant international and state building codes, as well as Habitat for Humanity construction standards
  • Maintain positive relationships with homeowners, volunteers, project teams, subcontractors, and inspectors
  • Conduct site meetings with subcontractors and vendors to confirm plans, specifications, schedules, and costs
  • Communicate project budget and schedule updates with the project team
  • Ensure consistent communication with Habitat staff throughout the construction process, addressing any concerns promptly
  • Assign and schedule volunteer, donor, and homebuyer tasks, providing training on material and tool usage, and promoting safety compliance through personal leadership
  • Implement volunteer engagement strategies, including sign-in procedures and recognition activities for donors
  • Mentor National Service members and interns
  • Handle administrative tasks for projects, including invoice processing
  • Provide digital documentation in project management software and create daily logs
  • Maintain clear communication through various channels as necessary
  • Create and share a four-week look-ahead schedule for daily operations
Required Qualifications
Education, Credentials, and Experience:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Five years or more of experience in residential construction, or three years plus successful completion of two terms as an AmeriCorps member
  • Ability to lead and work effectively with volunteers
  • Certification in scaffold erection, OSHA fall protection, Habitat for Humanity International competent person training, and First Aid/CPR within the first month of employment
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Personal auto insurance compliant with organizational policies
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies:
  • Attention to Detail: Ensures completeness and accuracy of information and follows up on commitments
  • Equipment Operation and Maintenance: Safely operates and maintains power tools and construction equipment
  • Blueprint Reading: Interprets technical drawings and blueprints

Preferred Qualifications
Education, Credentials, and Experience:
  • Other supervisory or relevant teaching experience
  • Experience working with National Service Members, such as AmeriCorps
  • OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 certifications
Physical Requirements and Work Environment

This position involves medium work, including the occasional movement of objects up to 60 pounds. Regular walking and climbing on uneven surfaces, ladders, and stairs are required. The work is conducted on construction sites with frequent exposure to dirt, dust, dampness, construction debris, extreme temperatures, and noise from construction activities.

Hours of Work and Required Travel

This is a part-time position (0.5 FTE), approximately 20 hours per week, subject to seasonal variations. Regular travel within the service area for construction and renovation site work is required.

Tools and Equipment Used

Basic proficiency in MS Office, email, and internet usage is necessary. The role involves operating machinery, hand and power tools, and instructing others in their use.
