Position Overview:
The primary responsibility of the pharmacist is to supervise and ensure the safe and effective use of medications for patients within the healthcare facility. The pharmacist must possess expertise in various aspects of pharmacotherapy for patients across all age groups, including neonates, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics.

Key duties include monitoring medication therapy to assess appropriateness, dosage forms, treatment regimens, routes of administration, therapeutic duplications, and potential drug interactions.

Pharmaceutical care involves evaluating patient demographics, reviewing medication histories and profiles, establishing desired therapeutic outcomes, creating care plans, identifying alternative treatment options, educating patients and their families on medication use, and monitoring outcomes, including potential adverse interactions.

Proficiency in the Cerner pharmacy and hospital information systems is essential, along with familiarity with all technologies related to medication management, such as Automated Dispensing Cabinets and compounding equipment.

Compliance with intravenous compounding policies and procedures is mandatory. The pharmacist is also responsible for adhering to established policies, procedures, staffing guidelines, safety metrics, and financial objectives. Providing education to healthcare professionals and patients is a key requirement.

It is crucial to maintain compliance with all state and federal regulations concerning medications.

Responsibilities:

Core Competencies:
  • Exhibit proficiency with established Clinical Programs endorsed by the Medical Staff.
  • Ensure effective communication of medication-related issues within the pharmacy team.
  • Adhere to Clinical Model standards, including intervention documentation and observation.
  • Preserve the drug formulary by managing non-formulary requests appropriately.
  • Incorporate age-specific criteria into clinical decision-making processes.
  • Adjust therapies based on renal function as indicated.
  • Conduct pharmacokinetic management and documentation monthly.
  • Oversee anticoagulation programs, ensuring proper monitoring and dosing.
  • Document interventions in a timely manner, with a minimum frequency of once per hour worked.

Operational Competencies:
  • Manage assigned areas in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Supervise pharmacy technicians and interns to ensure efficient medication processing.
  • Manage sterile compounding processes and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Verify orders promptly and manage the flow of products without delays.
  • Exhibit teamwork through effective order completion and delivery.
  • Act in the best interest of patients and adhere to all safety protocols.
  • Demonstrate safe management of hazardous drugs.

Schedule:
This is a casual position with varied hours, primarily during the day.

Job Requirements:

Education:
  • Post-Baccalaureate Degree in Pharmacy.
Licenses/Certifications:
  • Active Pharmacy Licensure (PH) for the State of Nebraska is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is strongly preferred at the time of hire and required within three months.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required.
Experience:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and free from drug or alcohol addiction or convictions related to drug offenses.
  • A minimum of two years of hospital pharmacy experience is required.
Skills:
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with hospital staff, patients, and the public.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Word.
  • Analytical skills to interpret medical literature and patient-specific information.
  • Management skills to work independently and supervise pharmacy interns and technicians.
  • Time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively.
Physical Requirements:

Physical Demands:
  • Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force.
  • Physical activity includes frequent lifting, carrying, and standing.

Hazards:
  • Exposure to chemical agents, biological agents, and physical hazards is possible.
