Laredo College is consistently seeking applications for part-time (adjunct) educators to establish a pool of candidates for upcoming sessions/semesters. Applications will be evaluated and positions will be filled according to departmental requirements. Applications submitted for this pool will remain active for one year.

Upon employment, candidates must reside in the state of Texas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Deliver instruction and assess teaching/learning effectiveness in courses assigned by the Department Chair, Dean of Workforce, or the Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs, ensuring the instructor possesses appropriate qualifications. Utilize current discipline and pedagogical techniques to foster active engagement and learning among students.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide classroom instruction in the specific field of Construction Management. Instructors may be required to teach in-person, online, dual enrollment, or hybrid formats.
  2. Prepare and distribute a departmental syllabus on the first day of class, outlining course requirements regarding attendance, punctuality, assessments, assignments, quizzes, and examinations.
  3. Keep students informed of their progress by promptly returning assignments, quizzes, and examinations.
  4. Design, administer, and evaluate assessments that measure student progress.
  5. Encourage students to utilize the Library, Tutoring Center, Counseling Center, and other support services.
  6. Advise students and notify them or their counselors of frequent absences, academic failures, or necessary make-up work.
  7. Attend all assigned face-to-face classes punctually in the designated classrooms and be available to students 15 minutes before class, except between classes when teaching consecutively, and 15 minutes after class in the classroom, Adjunct office, or Tutoring Center.
  8. Be available virtually at a designated time communicated to students for a minimum of 30 minutes for each online course taught.
  9. Utilize Canvas as the Learning Management System (LMS) and grade book.
  10. Adhere to procedures related to the Office of the Registrar, including grade reports and deadlines, attendance records, withdrawal deadlines, and mid-semester progress reports.
  11. Follow the academic calendar and procedures as outlined in the Faculty Procedures Manual.
  12. Guide library research or other external assignments.
  13. Promote College programs and curricula.
  14. Update syllabi at least every two years or as necessary.
  15. Substitute for colleagues when required.
  16. Participate in evaluation processes conducted by students, the Engineering, Design, and Construction Management Technology Department Chair, Dean of Workforce Education, and the Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs.
  17. Ensure a safe environment for students and be responsible for the security of assigned equipment, materials, and classrooms.
  18. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Engineering, Design, and Construction Management Technology Department Chair, Dean of Workforce Education, Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs, or President.
Qualifications/Certifications/Licenses/Skills

Required:
  • Master's degree in Construction Management or a related field, or a Master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Construction Management or a related field.
  • Graduate coursework hours must align with the course learning outcomes that the instructor will be teaching.
  • Five (5) years of fieldwork experience with demonstrated competencies in the teaching discipline or a related field.
Preferred:
  • Ten (10) years of fieldwork experience with demonstrated competencies in the teaching discipline or a related field.
  • Professional license related to the teaching field.
