Position Summary

The Partnership Manager plays a pivotal role within the Grants Team, focusing on the evaluation, awarding, and oversight of grants aimed at promoting policy change and implementation for girls' education in Ethiopia. This role requires building strong, trust-based relationships with grantees, ensuring alignment with Malala Fund's strategic goals while supporting the growth and objectives of partner organizations. The Partnership Manager will oversee all phases of the grant lifecycle, including partner identification, relationship management, program delivery support, and grant reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Grantee Selection
  • Evaluate grant proposals based on funding criteria, effectiveness, design quality, and organizational viability. Assist applicants in refining their proposals and plans.
  • Develop advisory relationships at the national level to facilitate introductions to potential partners and contribute to proposal review processes.
  • Prepare grant approval recommendations for the leadership team.
  • Create and enhance an onboarding plan for new grantees, ensuring they understand Malala Fund's policies and expectations.
Grants Management and Oversight
  • Conduct regular site visits to current grantees to strengthen relationships and deepen understanding of their contexts.
  • Identify and address grantees' organizational and technical needs, connecting them with relevant resources.
  • Monitor financial reports and ensure that impact data is accurately tracked and reported.
  • Resolve implementation issues and recommend necessary adjustments to grants.
  • Act as the primary contact for inquiries related to grantees within the portfolio.
  • Collaborate with team members to create learning opportunities for grantees.
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding policies to protect all stakeholders involved.
  • Support the Grants Officer in maintaining accurate grantee records and ensuring timely reporting and payments.
Strategy Development and Collaboration
  • Work with leadership to align grantmaking strategies with Malala Fund's mission and values.
  • Contribute to the development of strategic frameworks that address barriers to girls' education.
  • Build networks with potential grantee partners and represent Malala Fund in educational networks.
Other Duties
  • Perform additional related tasks as required.

Qualifications

Essential
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in grantmaking or program management.
  • Proven experience in grant proposal evaluation and relationship management.
  • Knowledge of the civil society landscape in Ethiopia.
  • Fluency in Amharic.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience in financial management and budget review.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent project management abilities.
  • Willingness to travel for site visits.
Desirable
  • Experience in policy-focused grantmaking.
  • Fluency in additional Ethiopian languages.
  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
