Rural Mutual Insurance is seeking a highly skilled Insurance Underwriter Associate to join our team. As an Insurance Underwriter Associate, you will play a critical role in developing a strong understanding of underwriting, marketing, claims, loss control, audit, and other departments that make up an insurance company.
Key Responsibilities- Underwriting and Risk Assessment: Become familiar with coverage forms and the underwriting process. Work closely with other team members to gain a solid understanding of the various workflows in the underwriting department.
- Business Development: Develop a strong understanding of underwriting, marketing, claims, loss control, audit, and other departments that make up an insurance company.
- Renewal and Policy Management: Begin to service and underwrite the renewal book of business. Analyze profitability, coverages, classifications, and changes in operations. Consult on pricing and changes in terms. Work with support staff and the Customer Service Unit on required items such as unilateral letters and renewal changes.
- Customer Service: Respond to questions and policy referrals from CSU and Claims.
- Communication and Collaboration: Communicate with agents, policyholders, and other underwriters to obtain information and respond to questions related to underwriting.
- Change Management: Handle change requests for renewals, as well as certain midterm change requests as instructed by management.
- Quality Assurance: Complete peer review audits as instructed by management.
- Follow-up and Compliance: Handle renewal follow-up items as directed by management.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in risk management, insurance, business administration, agribusiness, or equivalent work experience.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Effective written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills: Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Collaboration and Organization Skills: Collaboration and organization skills.
- Additional Education and Experience: Additional education in CPCU or other industry-related fields is preferred. Experience in agriculture or agribusiness is beneficial.
