POSITION SUMMARY: The Illinois Statewide Parent Mentor Program is a model of excellence in fostering parent involvement within low-income communities, initially established by Logan Square Neighborhood Association in 1995. This program serves as a structured pathway to enhance parental engagement in educational settings, strengthen parent-teacher relationships, and ultimately mobilize community resources to support schools.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Community Engagement Program Supervisor is tasked with overseeing the daily operations of the program, ensuring the successful implementation of the annual work plan. In each educational institution, the Supervisor will recruit and train a Parent Mentor Coordinator, who will then engage, train, and support a group of Parent Mentors. Additionally, the Supervisor acts as a facilitator, with a primary focus on ensuring the program's effectiveness both within and beyond the classroom. This may involve identifying leadership development opportunities for Parent Mentors within the school, addressing community issues where Parent Mentors can contribute, and fostering enduring connections between the school and community organizations.

  • Recruit, interview, select, and supervise Parent Mentor Coordinators.
  • Participate in all statewide monthly meetings and training sessions of the Parent Engagement Institute.
  • Provide training and support to PMCs in recruiting, interviewing, selecting, and supervising parent mentors and volunteers.
  • Collaborate with Parent Mentor Coordinators to deliver a comprehensive 5-day initial training for the parent mentor cohort.
  • Work alongside Parent Mentor Coordinators to organize and conduct weekly meetings, workshops, and training sessions for Parent Mentors.
  • Coordinate with school administration to align parent mentors with teachers based on their needs and availability.
  • Timely submission of reports to the Parent Engagement Institute.
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with parents, educators, administrators, and community leaders.
  • Encourage parent mentors to engage in leadership development opportunities within the school and the broader community.
  • Maintain effective communication with school staff and administration.
  • Organize workshops across various schools and assist PMCs in coordinating a Parent-Led Event to engage additional parents.
  • Ensure the completion of all surveys (pre and post) in a timely manner.
  • Guarantee that parent mentor stipends are distributed in accordance with PEI policy.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Exceptional time management skills with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail coupled with problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills in a dynamic environment.
  • A creative mindset with the capacity to propose enhancements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree is required.
  • Bilingual proficiency is essential.
  • Considerable experience working with parent groups in low-income settings.
  • Experience in training groups and implementing programs.
  • Proficient in organizing documentation and managing reporting requirements.
  • Willingness to travel to various training and event locations.
