Assistant or Associate Professor in Biomaterial Marketing

Job Overview
The Department of Sustainable Biomaterials (SBIO) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Extension Specialist in Sustainable Biomaterial Marketing. This role is pivotal in shaping future leaders in the sustainable use of renewable natural resources, particularly within Virginia's thriving forest-based industry, which significantly contributes to the state's economy.

Position Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be tasked with developing a robust program that emphasizes both current and emerging biomaterial products and markets, particularly focusing on the forest products sector in Virginia. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting comprehensive analyses of biobased materials and energy markets.
- Evaluating the impact of policies on market dynamics.
- Assisting stakeholders in identifying and developing viable market opportunities.
- Recognizing industry needs and enhancing knowledge as product markets evolve.
- Providing support to renewable materials enterprises.
- Formulating sustainable business strategies.
- Facilitating business plan development.
- Contributing to new product development initiatives.
- Engaging in the analysis and development of export markets.
- Conducting program evaluations to assess impact.
This is a tenure-track position with a 9-month appointment, where the primary focus will be on extension (70%) and research (30%). The successful candidate will be expected to create an impactful extension program and conduct applied research that aligns with their extension initiatives. Mentoring and advising graduate students will also be a critical component of this role, alongside participation in departmental and university activities.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Sustainable Biomaterials, Forest Products Marketing, Bioproducts Marketing, Operations Management, Business, Forestry, Wood Science, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated potential to secure funding for an active research and extension program.
- Ability to develop and maintain a nationally recognized extension program.
- Exceptional communication skills.
- Proven track record of publishing and presenting scholarly work.
- Capability in research design, grant writing, and disseminating results at scientific forums.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in mentoring and supporting both graduate and undergraduate students.
- Evidence of engagement with stakeholders and the ability to create and deliver educational content through various methods.
- Demonstrated scholarship that complements existing sustainable biomaterials initiatives.
- Interest in collaborating with governmental agencies, NGOs, private sector entities, or a combination thereof.
- Experience in leading and managing teams effectively.
- Ability to work with diverse colleagues and audiences to foster cohesive programs across research and extension missions.
