Research Assistant Professor/Research Associate Professor/Research Professor in Statistics/Data Science

We are seeking highly qualified individuals to join our team as Research Assistant Professor, Research Associate Professor, or Research Professor in Statistics or Data Science at the Virginia Tech National Security Institute. As a member of our research staff, you will contribute to the execution of university-sponsored programs, conduct research and development, and support the development of new funded research programs.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct research and development in applied statistics and data science, including experimental design, survey sampling, control charts, and Bayesian models.
- Author technical documents and publish peer-reviewed academic papers.
- Support the development of new funded research programs by participating on proposal teams and supporting business development activities.
- Mentor students engaged in experiential learning programs and advise graduate students pursuing advanced degrees.
- Occasionally teach courses (optional).
- U.S. citizenship is required due to the nature of the research conducted and the requirement from the federal sponsor.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Earned Doctorate degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Experimental Psychology, Physics, or related discipline.
- Evidence of high potential for excellence in research and development.
- Scholarship and funding credentials that support the rank of either research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor.
- Demonstrated mastery of one's field of study through publication of relevant research in peer-reviewed academic venues.
- Proficiency with tools germane to the field of research.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team in executing upon research projects.
- Active security clearance at the TS/SCI level.
- Experience writing grant and contract proposals.
- Experience serving as principal investigator on research grants and contracts (required for rank of research associate professor or research professor).
- Interest and/or experience in working effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.
- Experience conducting research programs supporting defense and intelligence sponsors.
