Civil Service Title: City Research Scientist

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Compliance Specialist to join our team at the New York City Department of Transportation. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing environmental procedures and protocols for lead paint removal operations on NYC bridges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement findings and procedures established in the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for Lead Paint Removal Operations on NYC bridges.
  • Provide training to contractors, consultants, and city personnel in NYC DOT's requirements for lead-paint removal.
  • Manage and oversee environmental concerns on NYC bridge rehabilitation, construction, capital, and maintenance projects.
  • Oversight of Bridge in-house operations associated with environmental concerns, including SPDES quarterly sampling of bridge sump discharges.
  • Management of hazardous and regulated waste generated from NYC projects and in-house operations.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.
  • One year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification and environmental sciences experience preferred.
