Lead Generative AI Engineer

As a Principal Engineer specializing in Generative AI at Madrigal Pharmaceuticals, you will play a pivotal role in harnessing cutting-edge AI technologies to foster innovation in the pharmaceutical sector. Your focus will be on crafting business-oriented solutions that showcase the potential of Large Language Models (LLMs) and steering the development of our Generative AI strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership:
- Design and oversee the Generative AI strategy.
- Pinpoint essential business challenges that can be addressed through Generative AI.
- Formulate and execute strategies for integrating Generative AI into the business framework.
- Facilitate peer discussions and utilize analytical skills to positively impact decision-making.
- Architectural Design:
- Determine the appropriate complexity of LLMs for various applications.
- Establish technical standards and frameworks for Generative AI implementations.
- Lead efforts in prompt engineering to enhance LLM efficiency.
- Rapidly prototype and evaluate LLM applications to improve user experiences.
- Data Science and Machine Learning:
- Possess a robust theoretical foundation and extensive experience in machine learning, deep learning, and statistical analysis.
- Lead initiatives in fine-tuning LLMs and developing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems.
- Create and implement automated processes for predictive model validation and deployment.
- Contribute to the AI/ML infrastructure, including Feature Stores and Model Stores, to maximize LLM utility.
- Engage in discussions on emerging methodologies in machine learning.
- Collaborative Engagement:
- Partner with cross-disciplinary teams, including data scientists and research experts, to deliver features incrementally.
- Guide both internal and external developers in executing the Generative AI strategy.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts across various business domains.
- Educate both technical and business stakeholders on Generative AI applications.
- Innovation and Continuous Learning:
- Exhibit a blend of business acumen, analytical prowess, and programming expertise to swiftly navigate project discovery phases.
- Communicate findings effectively through structured reporting and presentations.
- Stay abreast of advancements in LLMs and apply insights to business contexts.
- Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Engineering, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Over 10 years of experience with programming languages such as Python, SQL, R, and MATLAB.
- At least 8 years of hands-on experience in machine learning and deep learning, including LLM fine-tuning.
- Extensive experience in data visualization and dashboard creation using Python and R tools.
- Proficient in data manipulation and complex query writing.
- Experience implementing AI/ML systems on platforms like Databricks.
- Strong understanding of cloud data technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure) for scalable analytics solutions.
- Proven track record in machine learning and software engineering best practices.
- Ability to articulate research findings through documentation and presentations.
- Fluency in English.
