Position Overview

The Community Support Specialist is integral in providing essential social services to diverse populations. Furthermore, the position involves maintaining accurate records, managing social media outreach, and collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure access to vital resources such as food, shelter, and housing. The Community Support Specialist is also responsible for keeping client documentation current using appropriate software systems. This role is vital for fostering strong community relationships and ensuring the effective provision of services to those in need.

Key Responsibilities
  • Community Engagement: Actively engage in outreach activities to provide resources and support in various environments, including public spaces and areas lacking basic amenities. This includes offering critical services such as food, shelter, clothing, and transportation.
  • Holistic Service Delivery: Provide a comprehensive array of social services, including financial literacy, mentorship, counseling, legal assistance, and domestic support. Aid clients in navigating housing options, public assistance programs, and financial resources.
  • Client Management: Employ evidence-based methodologies, such as Motivational Interviewing and Harm Reduction, in client management. Regularly meet with clients to assess and enhance their stability plans, focusing on overall wellbeing and self-sufficiency.
  • Flexible Scheduling: Availability for varied work hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.
  • Record Keeping and Data Management: Maintain and update client files and records using relevant software. Ensure accurate documentation of time spent on activities related to various funding sources.
  • Professional Growth: Participate in team meetings, relevant conferences, and training opportunities. Engage in special projects and adhere to supervisory guidance. Adapt to changes in responsibilities as outlined by MEN TAKING OVER REFORMING SOCIETY, Inc.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience or aptitude for fulfilling job responsibilities effectively.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in a human services role or relevant internship.
  • Preferred Bachelor's Degree in Human Services or equivalent professional experience.
  • Ability to work compassionately with marginalized and vulnerable populations; engage clients in a respectful and inclusive manner, including those exhibiting diverse behaviors.
  • Capability to lift at least 30 pounds.
Skills and Competencies
  • Experience working with individuals facing homelessness or similar challenges, with a solid understanding of basic case management principles.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Intermediate proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Compassionate, resilient, and committed to upholding program policies and standards.
  • Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License and ability to drive.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Willingness to maintain confidentiality in accordance with organizational and industry standards.
