Function:

The AVID site coordinator/teacher is responsible for overseeing the AVID program within the STEM Academy. This role involves managing a successful AVID initiative by collaborating with secondary school staff and higher education partners, organizing curriculum and activities, and addressing the needs of targeted students. The coordinator also collaborates with colleagues to implement AVID methodologies across the school, assists in placing students in college preparatory courses, and guides students through the college application process.

Major Responsibilities & Requirements:

AVID Duties:

  • Act as the site coordinator/teacher for the AVID program within the STEM Academy.
  • Coordinate the AVID program among 9th-grade STEM colleagues to ensure successful implementation.
  • Manage the Academy Speaker's Bureau, internship applications, and AVID tutoring initiatives.
  • Collaborate with post-secondary partners for college/university visits and guest speakers.
  • Serve as a respected instructional leader, working effectively with secondary staff and higher education faculty.
  • Commit to addressing the academic needs of all targeted students.
  • Work with colleagues to apply AVID methodologies and assist students in college preparatory curricula.

Teacher Duties:

  • Plan for effective student learning aligned with daily objectives and core concepts.
  • Ensure student engagement and success in learning, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
  • Utilize diverse instructional models and effective teaching practices.
  • Design engaging lessons based on State TEKS and District Curriculum.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance and materials issued.
  • Manage time and resources effectively.
  • Accept additional assignments as directed by administration.
  • Instruct classes in assigned subject areas.
  • Oversee the use and care of instructional materials.
  • Keep current records of student performance and progress.
  • Regularly communicate with parents regarding student progress.
  • Fulfill responsibilities related to grading, assessments, and school programs.
  • Maintain classroom discipline conducive to learning and safety.
  • Analyze assessment data to tailor instruction to individual student needs.
  • Identify at-risk students and plan appropriate interventions.
  • Modify instruction based on IEP goals and 504 accommodations.
  • Collaborate with the campus librarian to select appropriate materials.
  • Encourage and support struggling learners.
  • Provide constructive feedback to reinforce student learning.
  • Exhibit professionalism in interactions with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Maintain and care for classroom equipment and resources.
  • Meet deadlines as required.
  • Demonstrate effective leadership techniques.
  • Adhere to campus, district, and state policies.
  • Engage in professional growth and development.
  • Communicate professionally with all stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with team members and contribute to school administration.
  • Develop skills for evaluating and diagnosing student needs.
  • Comply with all relevant regulations and policies.
