Function:

The AVID site coordinator/teacher plays a crucial role in managing the AVID program within the STEM Academy. This position involves collaborating with secondary school staff and higher education faculty, organizing curriculum and activities, and focusing on the needs of targeted students. The coordinator is responsible for implementing AVID methodologies across the school, assisting students in accessing college preparatory curricula, and guiding them through the college application process.

Major Responsibilities & Requirements:

AVID Duties:

  • Act as the site coordinator/teacher for the AVID program within the STEM Academy.
  • Oversee the AVID program among 9th-grade STEM colleagues, ensuring successful execution of the AVID implementation plan.
  • Coordinate the Academy Speaker's Bureau, internship programs, and AVID tutoring initiatives.
  • Collaborate with post-secondary partners to arrange college/university visits and guest speakers.
  • Serve as a respected instructional leader, effectively organizing curriculum and activities.
  • Commit to addressing the academic needs of all targeted students.
  • Work alongside colleagues to implement AVID methodologies and assist counselors in guiding students through the college application process.

Teacher Duties:

  • Design lessons that facilitate successful student learning, covering essential knowledge and skills.
  • Ensure student engagement and success in learning, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
  • Utilize diverse instructional models and effective teaching practices.
  • Incorporate State TEKS and District Curriculum to create challenging and high-quality lessons.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance and textbooks issued.
  • Manage time and resources effectively.
  • Accept additional assignments as directed by administration.
  • Instruct classes in the assigned subject areas.
  • Care for instructional materials and equipment.
  • Keep current records of student grades and progress.
  • Evaluate and assess student performance accurately.
  • Engage with parents regarding student progress.
  • Fulfill responsibilities related to grading, exams, field trips, and programs.
  • Maintain classroom discipline conducive to learning and safety.
  • Analyze assessment data to tailor instruction.
  • Identify at-risk students and plan appropriate interventions.
  • Modify and accommodate student needs based on IEP goals and 504 plans.
  • Collaborate with the campus librarian to select relevant materials.
  • Encourage and support struggling learners.
  • Provide constructive feedback to reinforce student learning.
  • Maintain a positive and respectful demeanor towards students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ensure the upkeep of all classroom equipment and furniture.
  • Meet deadlines as required.
  • Exhibit effective leadership techniques.
  • Adhere to campus, district, and state policies and procedures.
  • Engage in professional growth and development.
  • Communicate professionally with all stakeholders.
