Position Overview

Peraton is looking for a Junior to Intermediate Systems Engineer to contribute to our NASA Space Exploration Network Services and Evolution (SENSE) contract. This role offers flexibility for occasional remote work and may require travel to various NASA facilities as necessary. The chosen candidate will play a vital role in a distinguished team dedicated to ensuring the reliability of NASA's space-ground communication systems and services to meet mission objectives.

As a key player in the SENSE contract, you will engage in systems engineering activities including design, development, integration, testing, and maintenance of a versatile platform that supports missions across different service providers. This platform is crucial for NASA's communication and navigation services in the Near Space Region, catering to both NASA missions and other clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement effective configuration management processes.
  • Create formal documentation such as reports, procedures, and failure analyses.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of processes and procedures.
  • Design and manage a state-of-health dashboard to monitor the active status of systems and subsystems.
  • Utilize SolidWorks for modeling and 3-D printing tasks.
  • Apply NASA standards and procedures throughout the engineering lifecycle.
  • Conduct technical trade studies as needed.
  • Collaborate closely with SARLab personnel, including technical leads, operators, and IT security teams.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Aerospace, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in systems engineering, focusing on operations concepts, requirements development, system specifications, and technical reviews.
  • Familiarity with NASA or Department of Defense systems engineering lifecycle processes.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance, requiring U.S. citizenship and proof of citizenship.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Aerospace, Computer Science, or Applied Mathematics.
  • Experience with space communication systems or NASA projects.
  • Knowledge of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools (e.g., Cameo Systems Modeler, MagicDraw) and system modeling languages (e.g., SysML, UML).
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks 3-D modeling software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail and understanding of broader technical issues.
  • Capability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting as a proactive self-starter.
  • Excellent organizational skills for managing multiple tasks within tight deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
