Job Title: Geospatial Engineer

Job Summary:

The Disasters program area is dedicated to enhancing the utilization of Earth observations within disaster management sectors. This role focuses on the strategic development, execution, and coordination of three primary components of the Disasters Program: 1) the Disasters Science to Action Portfolio, which supports various sectors and decisions throughout the disaster management cycle; 2) the Disasters Response Coordination System; and 3) the open-science Disasters Partnership and Learning Platform, known as the Disasters Portal, which facilitates capability and technology exchange while promoting knowledge-sharing within the disaster management community.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  1. Assist in the design, development, and transition of the Disasters Portal to a cloud-based infrastructure.
  2. Collaborate with the Disasters Program and NASA's Earth Science Data Systems Office to ensure the effective implementation of the Disasters Portal, including the formulation of necessary requirements for a successful transition.
  3. Co-lead the organization of an Annual Disasters Program Stakeholder Needs Workshop to ensure the Disasters Portal meets the evolving needs of the Program's Disaster Management Communities, while identifying new opportunities and challenges.
  4. Explore opportunities to create case studies, workflows, and tutorials that demonstrate the application of the Disaster Portal in decision-making processes related to disaster risk reduction, response, recovery, and resilience.
  5. Support the preparation of deliverables for the annual report, program documentation, stakeholder needs workshop, and other identified outputs.

Security Clearance: Candidates must possess or be eligible to obtain a TS security clearance or higher.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

A Master's Degree or higher in Earth Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.

A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in Earth Science and Geospatial Information Systems, with substantial relevant experience in leveraging Earth observations to facilitate coordinated responses by government agencies to natural disasters.

Required Skills:

Proficient in ArcGIS and related products, spatial analysis, statistics, Python programming, hydrological modeling, and multi-spectral satellite image processing.

Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse users and stakeholders across various government agencies and military organizations.

Strong teamwork capabilities and a commitment to customer support.

SAIC accepts applications on an ongoing basis and there is no deadline.
