Position Overview

Peraton is in search of an Electrical and Mechanical Field Service Engineer to contribute to our initiatives in Space Exploration Network Services and Evolution. This role is critical in supporting the operational integrity of NASA's satellite communication systems.

As a key player in the Peraton Space Exploration Networks Services and Evolution (SENSE) contract, you will engage in the management, upkeep, and engineering of NASA's global satellite communication networks. Your contributions will play a vital role in NASA's ambitious lunar missions, as well as in supporting new scientific endeavors in both earth and space.

In this capacity, your responsibilities will encompass supporting NASA's Search and Rescue Lab (SARLab). This includes the operation, maintenance, and enhancement of SARLab's antenna systems and their associated subsystems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Utilizing extensive technical expertise to address intricate challenges by interpreting manufacturer manuals and related documentation.
  • Conducting troubleshooting tasks, which may involve component replacement, circuit wiring, and performing repairs on basic electronic devices, as well as taking measurements with standard instruments such as digital multimeters, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
  • Delivering hardware maintenance services, which could include the installation, modification, and reinstallation of existing equipment, as well as preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure the original functionality of hardware configurations.
  • Executing mechanical preventive maintenance on antenna systems, which may involve lubricating gears, changing gearbox oil, and managing metal corrosion.
  • Demonstrating the ability to comprehend and adhere to operational and maintenance protocols without deviation.
  • Performing tasks in accordance with established systems engineering and configuration management policies.
  • Documenting formal reports, procedures, and failure analyses.
  • Occasionally assisting with the logistics of material transfers.
  • Collaborating closely with SARLab personnel, including technical leads, operators, and IT security teams.
  • Being available on-call to support lab operations during critical launch and landing events.
Qualifications:

Required Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or an Associate's degree with at least 4 years of experience; or equivalent technical experience without a degree, including 2 years of technical training.
  • A minimum of 2 years of training in engineering and/or electronics, with a preference for RF engineering experience.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience with electronic and mechanical systems.
  • Experience in following operational and maintenance procedures.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • This position necessitates the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance, requiring U.S. citizenship and proof of citizenship.
Desired Experience:
  • Proficiency in using testing instruments for evaluating electrical components, including digital multimeters, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
  • Familiarity with Maximo for inventory management, maintenance, and calibration processes.
  • Experience in integrating and configuring timing equipment for high-precision control systems and data measurement.
  • Expertise in installing and maintaining mechanical equipment, such as gearboxes and motors.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills.
