As a Deputy Attorney General, you will play a vital role, supported by a team of criminal investigators, victim service specialists, and administrative personnel, in prosecuting criminal cases, enforcing consumer protection laws, advising state agencies, ensuring governmental transparency, and safeguarding vulnerable populations.

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to fill the role of Deputy Attorney General within the Affirmative Litigation Unit in New Castle County.

This unit represents the State of Delaware in a diverse array of innovative civil and administrative matters.

The Deputy Attorney General will focus on two primary responsibilities: serving as the general counsel for the Unemployment Insurance Appeal Board (UIAB) and conducting administrative prosecutions to uphold the regulations governing professional conduct in Delaware.

Key Responsibilities

In the capacity of UIAB general counsel, the Deputy Attorney General will:

  • Assess appeals submitted to the Board for compliance with deadlines.
  • Provide legal guidance during Board hearings.
  • Draft legal opinions and decisions.
  • Represent the Board in Rule 72 appeals before the Superior Court.

This dynamic role involves managing a substantial caseload for the UIAB, which includes attending hearings, drafting numerous legal documents, conducting legal research, and addressing various legal matters pertinent to the UIAB.

Additionally, the Affirmative Litigation Unit's administrative prosecutors advocate on behalf of the State in disciplinary hearings against professionals accused of violating relevant statutes and regulations.

As a Deputy Attorney General in this unit, you will be at the forefront of ensuring public safety and professional accountability.

Qualifications

Ideal candidates for this position will possess the following skills:

  • Self-motivated with the ability to independently navigate complex legal challenges.
  • Proficient in evaluating cases and anticipating legal issues.
  • Strong legal research capabilities and the ability to provide sound legal counsel based on applicable laws and regulations.
  • Ability to foster collaborative relationships with colleagues, Board members, law enforcement, and agency staff.
  • Demonstrated capacity to quickly learn and apply relevant laws, regulations, and court procedures.

Applicants must be a member of the Delaware Bar or eligible to practice law in accordance with Delaware Supreme Court Rule 55.
