Overview

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join the Affirmative Litigation Unit within the Civil Division, specifically in the New Castle County office.

This role involves significant responsibilities, including acting as the primary legal advisor to the Unemployment Insurance Appeal Board (UIAB) and managing administrative prosecutions to enforce professional conduct regulations as outlined in Delaware law.

Key Responsibilities

As the legal advisor to the UIAB, the Deputy Attorney General will:

  • Assess appeals submitted to the Board for compliance with deadlines.
  • Provide legal counsel during hearings and draft official decisions.
  • Represent the Board in appeals to the Superior Court.

This position is dynamic and requires handling a substantial caseload for the UIAB. Responsibilities include:

  • Attending hearings and preparing numerous legal opinions and orders.
  • Conducting thorough legal research and addressing various legal matters related to the UIAB.

Additionally, the Deputy Attorney General will participate in administrative disciplinary hearings against professionals accused of violating relevant statutes and regulations, playing a crucial role in safeguarding public trust.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

  • Strong self-management abilities to independently navigate complex legal challenges.
  • Proficiency in evaluating cases and anticipating legal issues.
  • Capability to conduct precise legal research and provide sound legal advice based on applicable laws and regulations.

Collaboration is essential; the Deputy Attorney General must establish effective working relationships with colleagues, Board members, and various stakeholders.

Applicants must be a member of the Delaware Bar or eligible to practice law in accordance with Delaware Supreme Court regulations.
