Job Summary

The City of Birmingham, Michigan is seeking a highly skilled Public Works Inspector to join our team for the 2024 construction season. As a Public Works Inspector, you will be responsible for inspecting road, sidewalk, and underground utilities construction projects, preparing and recording engineering sketches and inspection reports, and performing other related duties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect road, sidewalk, and underground utilities construction projects to ensure compliance with city regulations and standards.
  • Prepare and record engineering sketches and inspection reports to document project progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Work with contractors to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Represent the City of Birmingham with contractors and the general public, providing excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Utilize construction inspection related software for daily reporting and data analysis.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus additional education in Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience in Civil Engineering and/or Public Works Inspection, including installation for sewer, water main, and street paving projects.
  • A combination of relevant work and education experience will be considered.
  • Ability to work outside in extreme conditions.
  • Access to a mobile phone for communication purposes.
