Job Summary

The City of Birmingham, MI is seeking a highly skilled Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector to join our Community Development / Building department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for conducting technical and professional duties related to plumbing and mechanical codes, City Codes and Ordinances, and department policies and procedures.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform plumbing and mechanical plan reviews to ensure compliance with City Codes and Ordinances.
  • Conduct inspections of existing plumbing installations to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with codes and regulations.
  • Issue ordinance citations to property owners and contractors for non-compliance with codes and regulations.
  • Assist with FOIA requests and provide information to the public regarding building codes and regulations.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, supplemented by college coursework in a related field.
  • Certification or ability to qualify for provisional certification as a plumbing inspector, mechanical inspector, and plan reviewer under State of Michigan Act 407.
  • Strong working knowledge of current computer programs, including BS&A, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office, and other relevant software.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, work effectively with the public and staff, and communicate professionally and effectively both verbally and in writing.

Benefits:

  • Full-time position with 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.
  • Hourly rate schedule from $29.57, with up to 5 qualifying certifications paid out at $0.50/hour per certification.
