Job Title: Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector to join our team at the City of Birmingham, Michigan. As a key member of our Community Development/Building department, you will be responsible for conducting technical and professional duties related to plumbing and mechanical codes, City Codes and Ordinances, and department policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform plumbing and mechanical plan reviews to ensure compliance with relevant codes and regulations.
  • Conduct inspections of existing plumbing installations to identify and address any non-compliance issues.
  • Issue ordinance citations as necessary to ensure compliance with City Codes and Ordinances.
  • Assist with FOIA requests and provide information to the public as needed.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, supplemented by college coursework in a related field.
  • Certification or ability to qualify for provisional certification as a plumbing inspector, mechanical inspector, and plan reviewer under State of Michigan Act 407.
  • Strong working knowledge of current computer programs, including BS&A, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office, and other relevant software.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and work effectively with the public and staff at all levels.
  • International Code Council certification as a Residential Plumbing Inspector (possession at time of hire or attainment within 6 months from date of hire).
Benefits:
  • Full-time position with 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm.
  • Hourly rate schedule from $29.57, with up to 5 qualifying certifications paid out at $0.50/hour per certification.
