Job Summary

The Learning Center for the Deaf is seeking a dynamic and compassionate Classroom Assistant to support our deaf and hard of hearing students in a collaborative and inclusive educational environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instructional Support: Assist teachers in preparing instructional materials and classroom visuals to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Student Supervision: Provide direct supervision and monitor students' work in individual and small group settings, adapting to their unique needs and abilities.
  • Data Collection and Interpretation: Participate in collecting, documenting, and interpreting student data to inform instruction and support student growth.
  • Classroom Management: Assume responsibility for supervising students in the absence of the Classroom Teacher and implement behavior management plans as directed.
  • Student Care: Assist students with physical disabilities, including feeding, toileting, and personal hygiene, as needed.
  • Transportation and Activities: Escort and monitor students to and from the classroom and other activities, such as lunch and therapies.
Requirements
  • Education: High School diploma or GED certificate
  • Language Proficiency: Minimum conversational fluency in American Sign Language required, with native or near-native fluency preferred
  • Teamwork and Communication: Ability to work effectively as part of an educational team and communicate with colleagues and students
  • Experience: Prior experience working with children preferred
  • Feedback and Growth: Ability to communicate and accept feedback and suggestions regarding job responsibilities and performance
